Underwriter
A person or company that underwrites insurance policies, assumes responsibility for the risk and receives premiums as compensation.
Underwriting
The process of reviewing and evaluating insurance applicants to determine their insurability and the appropriate premium for the risk. Applicants with unacceptable risks may be rejected or offered limited coverage.
Uninsurable Risk
A risk for which it is very difficult to obtain insurance.
Usual, Customary and Reasonable (UCR)
Utilization Review
The process of monitoring patient care for cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and quality.
