Waiting Period

A period of time when you are unable to obtain insurance until specified criteria are met. Sometimes an employee may be required to work for an employer for a certain period of time before they are eligible for medical benefits. Waiting periods do not count as gaps in health insurance for purposes of determining whether coverage is continuous.
