HIPAA
HIPAA is not a free health insurance program, but federal law that exists to protect consumers. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) allows an insured individual to immediately qualify for comparable health insurance coverage if they change their employment or relationships, irrespective of preexisting conditions or health status.
HIPAA Regulations
HIPAA also introduced a number of other requirements related to health care, and several states have modified and expanded upon the HIPAA regulations, therefore consumer protection varies from state to state.
